Facebook could cause divorce, researchers say

Individuals who think that “liking” a photo of a dog posted by their old college roommate may not have any real significance may want to think again. According to a new study, a popular aspect of the Internet could have a significant effect on divorce rates. While Oregon couples might divorce for a myriad of different reasons, Facebook could actually be part of the cause.

American pet owners shelled out over $61 billion buying items for their animals in 2011. With roughly three-quarters of American households boasting at least one pet, it may be no surprise that a couple going through a divorce is willing to fight for custody of their beloved animal. In some Oregon divorces, disagreements over custody of a pet may even rise above issues concerning child custody.
