Serving Oregon Since 1949

Our Springfield, Oregon, law firm has a long and prestigious history. Founded in 1949 by Edward C. Harms, Jr., we have represented the City of Springfield and the Springfield Utility Board (SUB) for more than 36 years.

Tim Harold, now retired, joined in 1965 and expanded the practice to include litigation. Joe Leahy, with us since 1976, has continued to build a strong team to meet client needs in the 21st century. In 2008, Bill Van Vactor joined after serving as Lane County Counsel and Administrator. He recently retired from the practice in February 2013. Matthew J. Cox joined in 2004, after serving as an Assistant District Attorney. Patrick Melendy joined in 2011. Mary Bridget Smith joined the law firm in 2007. Kay Hyde-Patton joined the firm in 2008.

Community Involvement

From the very beginning, our law firm has actively supported community organizations such as the United Way of Lane County, Springfield Education Association, Emerald Empire Art Association, SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

Our lawyers have volunteered for Lane County Senior Legal Services and helped Lane County foster children through the Junior League of Eugene, and are members of the Springfield Public Library Foundation Board and the Hospital Board, as well as contributing to the community through the Rotary clubs of Springfield, the Springfield Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee, and the Cottage Grove Community Hospital Foundation.  Our law firm was recently the recipient of the 2014 Springfield Chamber Heritage Award.
